Some of the biggest fears that mothers have about working with a life coach revolve around money and time – the two things none of us have enough of. What if you find the money in your budget for coaching and you make the time for each session and it doesn’t work. What if it’s not what you thought? What if you aren’t getting what you need out of the relationship?
These are all completely valid concerns. It helps to clearly define what coaching is and how it’s done. A coach is an outside observer who will help you do the work to change your life. My job is to ask the right questions that allow you to uncover the woman you were when you were just me – before you were “Mommy”. I hold a safe space for you to meet her and I help you decide which parts of her you’d like to bring into your new life and how.
So how do we do that? How does this whole coaching thing actually work?
My method is called Inside Out. I work with you through a series of questions that start with identifying your dreams, wants, and needs (the inside). Then we work through what is blocking you from taking action. And finally, we create practical plans that will work with your family and your schedule (the outside).
This is where many coaches stop. They’ve shown you how to fly, now off you go!
I spend time with you after you have put your plan into place. Our last two sessions together will be spent on figuring out what is working for you and what isn’t and learning how to adjust your plan. So many people get stuck the first time that a plan doesn’t work out the way they thought it would. They assume this means they’re somehow broken, or that they are too high maintenance. All it really means is that you’re human and you’re making changes in your life. This is also why I do a check in two weeks later to offer support or to cheer you on in your fabulous new life.
The most important thing I can do is to teach you the process of change. Once you know how to do this you can apply it to any area of your life. You can model this way of living for your children and teach them that change is always possible. It opens up worlds of possibility.
